At Home With Jenny Ulmer
If you're wondering whether that classical victorian painting is in fact 4 zombies enjoying afternoon tea, the answer is yes. Yes, zombies. Turning classical paintings into zombie art is one of Jenny Ulmer's favorite past times. She has a fixation with all things macobre, which makes the fact that she looks like an actual human incarnation of a Disney Princess even more hilarious.
The first time I visited her house I knew I wanted to shoot her there. I thought I was a good thrifter....girl has miles on me. Her house is an emporium of everything from the cute and cuddly (a kitten figurine collection in her bathroom) to bizarre and creepy (reference zombie photos above). And when asked where she got anything the answer is, "Oh some guy on the side of the road" or "You know that shop with no sign in Little Ethiopia between the rug store and that other rug store? Yeah there." She knows all the spots.
Super cool pad and thrifting skills aside, Jenny has incredible talent. Not only can she paint in almost any style, but she cross-stitches, draws, can build you a dope shoe shelf and made nearly every article of clothing she's wearing in these photographs. Right now she's taking commissions, adding to her Etsy shop, and building dragon wings for her dog to make videos like this one.
Dream job? Art Department for film and television. One of her heros? H.R. Giger. Fun fact: Her dog has 25k followers on instagram. Thanks Jenny for playing dress up with me! Can't wait for the next time!
